Who is responsible?

Loquarion

  • Loquarion, a young man in the time of ancient Greece, was a born talker. He annoyed everyone with incessant yapping, and his family decided they needed to get rid of him.

  • He was sent to Mount Cyllene to attend to the temple of Hermes and worship the god who seemed to have blessed him with many words.

  • Loquarion was more than happy to serve the temple of Hermes, but often got bored with the menial tasks he was given to do on a day-to-day basis. As he cleaned and prepared the temple for offerings and worship, he would talk to himself.

Hermes

  • Hermes, god of messages, tricks, and transportation, loved listening to the gossip and goings on of his servants and worshippers in his temples.

  • Hermes heard every word of Loquarion’s many speeches and loved to listen to the rantings and recitations as he himself went about his busy work, carrying messages, and accomplishing daily tasks.

  • Though Hermes was able to hear every word spoken in his temples, he found that he would sometimes become too overwhelmed with the less-charming speeches of other worshipers, or that he would travel so far away from the temple on Mount Cyllene that he found it difficult to hear the ramblings of his favorite devotee.

  • In order to hear Loquarion’s speeches no matter where he went, he commissioned Hephaestus to come up with a way for him to tune out all other noise but Loquarion’s words.
